It is this unique combination which makes Lake Oscawana truly a wonder in our modern, high-tech world. And, it is this life which LOCA, the Lake Oscawana Civic Association, works to encourage, preserve and perpetuate.
For many years Lake Oscawana has been a haven for those who appreciate outdoor living, who understand that we are stewards of the resources which make our life possible in the country and who are committed to both sharing and protecting.
LOCA is an association of member families who reside along the shores of Lake Oscawana and within its watershed. LOCA functions as a civic group focusing on the health of the Lake, the management of its resources and the preservation of the beauty of its central land location within the Town of Putnam Valley. Lake Oscawana, however, is almost unique in our region in that it is primarily the land owner and the home resident who are accountable for the future of our life here. In combination with the Town those who call Oscawana home, be they full-time residents or summer vacationers, make a difference every day to the future of our world.
LOCA provides a voice for our neighbors on civic and community issues. It organizes educational activities and hosts social events. It presents views to the Town Board and other government committees on proposals impacting conditions in the Lake and on its shores. LOCA’s general membership meetings are held each June and August. An active Board of Directors meets monthly throughout the year. Participation in LOCA is encouraged by all Lake residents.
LOCA has underwritten and adopted a Lake and Watershed Management Plan which was presented to the Town Board in 8/2008 and adopted later in the year by the Town Board. LOCA is supporting our Town government in its application for economic stimulus funds to move forward with implementation of the Management Plan. The goal of the Plan is to restore and enhance the health of the Lake so that a broad range of water activities can continue to be enjoyed for many years to come together with preserving the natural beauty of Oscawana.
We look forward to hearing from you and LOCA enlists your active support to ensure that many future generations will be able to continue to enjoy the living treasure of Lake Oscawana.
